Etgarim’s first water skiing course was held on the Sea of Galilee, instructed by two British water ski instructors. The course was such a success that in 1998, Etgarim held the first training course for water ski instructors for the disabled. Two instructors from the International Water Skiing Association in Ireland instructed the course, and granted training certificates to the new instructors. In this unique course, a group of physically challenged people from Jordan participated along with a group from Israel.
Currently, the water skiing activity is held at Ein Gev on the Sea of Galilee at an accessible beach that has been adjusted for the activity. Throughout the year, two-day courses are held over weekends. Participants learn the basics on specially adjusted skis that allow skiing while standing or sitting, and enable water skiing for most disabilities. The activity is suitable for paraplegics, amputees, the blind and others. After completing the course, the participants can join the water skiing activities held throughout the season, in which the participants can improve their water skiing abilities.
